My work on Portraits and Figure Stories, shows expressions and situations that convey feelings. Painting Florals, the same way, up and close. I select subjects that inspire me to tell a visual story.
By choosing watercolour as media, I commit from the first transparent marks I put down on 100% cotton paper.
The composition of the painting is the first decision I consider as framework to a subject. Then I problem solve to achieve the passages of light and changes in values, using mostly shape and colour as elements. Values range from natural white unpainted paper, preserved by painting negative shapes around it, to an intense palette.
I believe in using both traditional and expressive techniques to best carry my visual statements. I feel a successful painting is a visual story that resonates with a viewer in a gallery.
